Your teeth are very strong and able to withstand powerful bite forces, and even the onslaught of over 600 types of oral bacteria. However, this doesn’t mean your teeth are immune to damage. Occasionally, injury or decay may compromise the tooth structure. To prevent infection or tooth loss, Dr. R. Terry Councill, and Dr. Jonathan Glass, offer natural looking and durable restorations known as inlays and onlays. Using advanced technology, Councill Dental Group can now create and place inlays and onlays in one visit.
What are CEREC Inlays and Onlays?
Dental inlays and onlays are designed to repair teeth with moderate decay or damage, such as fractures and chips, that don’t require a dental crown. Inlays and onlays are perfect for teeth that also require more than just fillings. Dr. Councill and Dr. Glass can use inlays and inlays to repair teeth while preserving more of the natural tooth structure. Inlays are placed in the center of the tooth while onlays are used for damage that extends to one or more of the tooth cusps. Typically, these restorations would take at least two visits, and up to a month to complete and place.
With CEREC technology, Dr. Councill can complete the entire procedure in one sitting. CEREC technology uses a 3D image of your tooth to fabricate a restoration from a solid block of ceramic. This reduces the need for further adjustments and ensures a comfortable fit and natural looking appearance. Once finished, Dr. Councill simply bonds the inlay or onlay using a powerful adhesive, restoring your tooth to optimal health and beauty. The entire procedure can take as little as an hour, saving the time and money associated with multiple visits.
