Returning Your Smile to Full Function and Beauty
What happens when you lose most, if not all, of your teeth? Typically, you would then receive a set of removable dentures. While dentures help return your ability to eat and speak without difficulty, they also pose a number of drawbacks. At Councill Dental Group, we offer an innovative alternative: implant-supported dentures. A dental prosthetic held in place with multiple dental implants, implant-supported dentures offer a strong, lifelike, smile restoration that replaces your missing teeth.
What are Implant-Supported Dentures?
As we briefly mentioned above, implant-supported dentures replace missing teeth with a dental prosthesis held in place with a series of six to eight dental implant posts. We will first place the multiple titanium posts. Made from a biocompatible material, these posts bond with the jawbone tissue, anchoring them into place. Next, an abutment will be added to the post. Based on impressions taken of your smile, a dental prosthetic will be created. The new dentures will then snap onto the implant posts. Once in place, you can eat, speak, and smile with confidence and ease.
Benefits of Implant-Supported Dentures
- No slippage when eating or speaking
- No adhesives
- Easy cleaning and maintenance
- Prevents further loss of jawbone density
- Replaces missing teeth and looks completely natural
Am I a Good Candidate?
Optimal candidates for implant-supported dentures should be free of periodontal disease. Gum disease can lead to implant failure. In addition, patients should also have an adequate amount of jawbone tissue in order to support the implant posts. However, Dr. Councill offers another option for implant-supported dentures for patients with less jawbone tissue. The All-on-4 system offers teeth in a day, and only requires four implant posts on each arch. This provides patients who might not otherwise qualify, the opportunity to receive quality implant-dentures.
