Dr. Councill Reflects on His Experiences in Kenya and Guatemala
The opportunity to help those in need is an incredible experience. My experiences have taught me that not only do the people of Kawangware and Guatemala need our help, but that they are in a unique position to show Americans what really matters: charity, manners, contentment, humility, the importance of dreams and plans, the value of education and career, prayer, and so much more. In the middle of these poverty-stricken areas, I have discovered some of the people who are closest to God. I look forward to seeing them again.
2013 Guatemala Mission Trip
In October of 2013, I had the opportunity to participate in my first mission trip to Guatemala. Together with Faith Bible Church of The Woodlands, and La Mision in Guatemala, I met and was inspired by La Mision’s founder and leader, Dr. Tito. Dr. Tito left his Guatemalan practice to administer to the less fortunate. Tooth decay was rampant in the villages as people were forced to drink sugary drinks instead of contaminated water. Working with Dr. Tito, we furnished villages without clean water with water purifiers. By supplying clean water and dental care, we were able to provide valuable assistance to the villages.
2008 Kenya Dental Clinic
In 2008, I had the privilege of leading the first dental clinic to Kawangware, one of the poorest areas of Kenya. Since then, our team has grown from 5 members to more than 15. We have been able to help 3,000 people to date. By providing proper dental care, we help boost the overall health of people in dire need.
